Emmerdale‘s Charity Dingle made a heartbreaking discovery in tonight’s episode.
The latest instalment began with Charity suggesting an engagement party at the Woolpack to celebrate granddaughter Sarah Sugden and Jacob Gallagher’s happy news.
However, as the party got underway, Charity was forced to make a swift and early exit after a startling realisation.
At the Woolpack, Sarah, Jacob, Eric, Charity and Mackenzie were busy setting up for the party when Vanessa arrived with a cake.
Jacob’s grandad Eric excitedly ordered two bottles of fizz and a flustered Charity prepared the bottles and glasses.
Noticing Charity’s behaviour, Mack asked her if everything was okay, having been out-of-sorts all day. She shrugged off his concern and asked him to finish the drink order, needing to pop to the toilet.
Vanessa, meanwhile, had clocked Charity’s mood and followed her to the pub toilets concerned.
When Vanessa asked if she was okay, a devastated Charity told her the news. “I’ve been bleeding, what am I going to tell Sarah?” she said.
Charity then confided in Mack and asked him to cover for her so she could go home, wanting him to tell Sarah she was just tired and needed to rest.
As the celebrations got underway, Sarah noticed her grandmother was missing and saw Mack and Vanessa acting strangely.
Sarah headed home to check on Charity and found her upset on the sofa, where she demanded to be told the truth.
Charity told Sarah the heartbreaking news that she’d been bleeding, adding: “I don’t think it’s taken. I know my own body Sarah, I’m so sorry.”
While Charity’s first round of IVF for Sarah and Jacob has proven unsuccessful, we know she goes through with another round. Is more heartbreak in store or will Sarah get the baby she’s been hoping for?
