On General Hospital, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) had a short but impactful romantic entanglement back in 2021 — one that was cut short first by Jason’s sense of obligation toward Carly, then by his-and-hers presumed deaths. But now that both have returned to the land of the living, GH is poised to give the duo their fans dubbed “JaBritt” a second chance at love. Need a refresher on how they got together — and how they were torn apart — in the first place? We’ve got you covered!
Born To Run
In March of 2021, Franco Baldwin was murdered in cold blood by the ruthless Peter August, who framed Jason for the dastardly deed. Jason was arrested and tossed in prison. While he was in police custody, Cyrus Renault orchestrated a hit on Jason.
Rightly worried about her BFF’s safety, Carly Corinthos persuaded her old friend, Pentonville inmate Shawn Butler, to stab Jason — not fatally, but badly enough that he would require medical attention at General Hospital. Carly’s plan was to break Jason free of his armed guards at the hospital before Cyrus could eliminate him.
When Jason arrived at G.H., Britt — Peter’s biological half sister — was there — and she, too, was in grave danger from Cyrus and his attempts to consolidate power across Port Charles. Cyrus had installed himself as the chairman of the board at General Hospital, and Britt (who was the chief of staff at the hospital at the time) had begun pushing back against his various demands.
Britt went to see Jason in his hospital room after he got stitched up and by the end of their visit (under Carly’s watchful eye), Britt had revealed her suspicions about Cyrus’s nefarious activities. Jason implored her to get dirt on Renault that he could use against him. But Cyrus caught on to her investigation into a dangerous pharmaceutical he was distributing and decided to have her murdered, as well.
Believing in Jason’s innocence and badly wanting to see Peter brought to justice, Britt signed on to help facilitate Jason’s escape. While on the verge of making his escape in a car driven by Brick, Jason learned that Cyrus had ordered one of his goons to kill Britt. He put his own freedom on the line by doubling back to save Britt, fending off her would-be assassins. Jason and Britt fled to the garage, with Cyrus’s men following them, and made it into the getaway car — but Jason was shot in the chaos.
Britt, Jason and Brick made it to a safehouse, where Carly soon joined them, and despite the less-than-ideal conditions, Britt performed life-saving surgery on Jason. When the police (led by Dante) burst into the safehouse, though, it was empty — Britt and Jason had taken off!
Oh, Canada
The duo crossed into Canada and took refuge in a lighthouse. As she continued to provide Jason with medical care, Britt was dealing with health-related concerns of her own: She feared she had inherited the genetic marker for Huntington’s disease from her father, the late super-villain Cesar Faison. Britt took Jason into her confidence, and ultimately, she decided to get tested. He accompanied her to a local clinic for testing and she received confirmation that she did, indeed, carry the marker. In a raw and vulnerable conversation, Britt opened up to Jason about how frightened she was about what this meant for her future. This led to a kiss — and then to lovemaking.
Shortly thereafter, Jason told Britt he had to return to Port Charles, and he dispatched Britt’s mother, Liesl Obrecht, to stay with her in his stead. During his trip home, the charges against Jason were dropped. Britt and Liesl returned shortly thereafter, with Britt expressing confidence to her mom that Jason would keep her diagnosis a secret.
Going, Going, Gone
Though an emotional and physical intimacy had begun to develop between Britt and Jason that they both valued, there was a power struggle going on in the Five Families that put Sonny’s business at risk. Ever loyal to Carly and Sonny, Jason made the decision to marry Carly as a strategic move to protect the business.
Jason showed up at Britt’s for the date they had made and broke the news of his engagement. Britt was gutted, and when he told her he still wanted to be there for her, she laced into him. “You will not show up for me,” seethed Britt. “You will not lend me a hand. Anything. Because you are otherwise engaged — pun intended.”
On the night Jason tied the knot with Carly, Sonny returned home, very much alive, rendering Jason and Carly’s hours-old marriage invalid. Before long, Jason and Britt were thrust back into one another’s orbits when Obrecht went missing. She had been abducted by Victor Cassadine, who was in cahoots with Peter. Jason and Britt traveled to Greece in search of her and discovered that Britt was being help captive on Cassadine Island. Jason and Britt worked to rescue both Obrecht and Jason’s presumed-dead twin, Drew, who was also discovered to be Victor’s hostage. Jason wound up trapped in a tunnel rigged with explosives, and the tunnel collapsed, leaving him presumed dead. Britt was, of course, devastated.

Toward the end of 2022, as her symptoms from Huntington’s worsened, Britt decided that she didn’t want to deteriorate in front of the citizens of Port Charles and made plans to slip out of town quietly after throwing a New Year’s Eve bash on The Haunted Star. She was poised to live out the rest of her days far, far away when she spotted Josslyn Jacks in grave danger from the on-the-loose serial killer known as The Hook (later revealed to be Heather Webber). Britt sprang to action, telling Joss to run and fighting off her assailant. In the process, she was nicked by the toxin, and she died in the arms of her heartbroken mother — or so it seemed.
In early 2024, Jason returned to town; he’d survived the tunnel collapse and been forced to work with the FBI to save Carly from facing RICO charges. The fact that Britt was also alive and seemingly well was revealed in July 2025, when Jason was in a Paris airport and spotted his ex-lover. Unbeknownst to Jason, she was secretly working for a powerful male, who had her toiling away in a Croatian lab tucked inside the Five Poppies, a luxury spa and resort. After some internal deliberation — and learning from Anna Devane that Britt was likely in danger — Jason made a big decision: He was going to head overseas to find her.
