Netflix viewers are obsessing over ‘brilliant’ romantic drama Virgin River, following the release of the fifth series, which has had fans ‘hooked’ and wanting more
A Netflix romantic drama series has got fans hooked ahead of the release of the sixth season.
American TV series Virgin River has proven to be a major hit with fans. The first instalment of the show, based on the novels of the same title by Robyn Carr, was released back in 2019, with a series following every year since.
Virgin River follows the story of Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who decides to accept a job in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River as a midwife. She hopes for a fresh start but soon finds that small-town living is not as simple as it seemed.
The fifth season of Virgin River landed on Netflix back in September, followed by a two-part Christmas special. It seems the romance series has attracted some new fans recently however, with some taking to social media to recommend it to others.
As one person asked if Virgin River “is worth watching”, a fan replied: “Just started watching it, I’m at season 3 episode 4, LOVE IT.” Somebody else said: “I love it. Can’t wait for the next season!”
A third fan wrote: “One of my favs!” and a fourth wrote: “I like it. Can be slow Moving to get into but I found it’s an easy watch.” A final viewer added: “My husband and I are hooked. It is so good.”
An official release date for series six hasn’t been confirmed yet, but it’s expected that Virgin River will return in the first half of 2025.
Many fans have been wondering if Paige Lassiter (played by Lexa Doig) will be returning for another series, after the shocking discovery of her husband Wes’ (Steve Bacic) body. After accidentally killing him in the second season, Preacher (Colin Lawrence) assisted Paige in hiding the body. At the end of series five, Paige chose to leave, despite Preacher’s pleas for her to stay, seeking a fresh start with her son Christopher.
The Economic Times revealed that showrunner Patrick Sean Smith confirmed to them that Paige wouldn’t feature in the forthcoming series, with the storyline instead focusing on Preacher and his new love interest Kaia (Kandyse McClure).
The Economic Times reported: “Dispelling rumours of Paige’s return following the discovery of Wes’ body, Smith asserts that season six will not reintroduce Paige.
“Instead, the aftermath will test Preacher and Kaia’s relationship. With Preacher having moved on, the focus will shift to exploring the dynamics between him and Kaia, particularly with the revelation of a significant secret.”
