Emmerdale star reveals new role in ‘hard-hitting’ drama after sudden exit

Emmerdale star Daisy Campbell recently departed her role as Amelia Spencer in the ITV soap, but she is soon set to hit our screens again as part of a new project.

Teaming up with Rocking Horse Media, Daisy is set to star in a ‘hard-hitting’ drama called Storm, playing the lead role of Lacey Dean.

In a video posted to Instagram, Daisy explained that Lacey is also a child star from a soap opera, but that is where the similarities between character and actress end.

She went on to reveal that Lacey suffered abuse at the hands of a co-star who had previously been accused of a similar crime.

When the co-star is nominated for a lifetime achievement award, Lacey must decide whether to accept the money she is offered to pay tribute to him, or expose his abuse.

Daisy also teased that the cast for the drama is set to be made up entirely of soap stars, though kept tight-lipped about who will be joining her on set.

‘I feel so privileged to have been approached to play the lead role of Lacey in “Storm”,’ Daisy said in the caption of the post.

‘Especially because this original drama will raise awareness of something so serious and harrowing for the survivors who have experienced it, and that is historical abuse.

‘The script was first written over four years ago and, whilst it’s entirely fictional, the fact is that what happens to Lacey in “Storm” really does happen to innocent people in real life, so this is a story that needs to be told and I am privileged to have been chosen to tell it on behalf of all survivors everywhere.

‘So I am taking my responsibility as the face of this new drama incredibly seriously. So much so, myself and the team at Rocking Horse Media have already met with some brave survivors of historical abuse.

‘I haven’t experienced anything like what Lacey has in my own life but I have been so inspired by our survivors and their stories and I will be meeting more survivors with lived experiences soon.’

She went on to explain that 2025 is set to be an exciting year for her following her exit from Emmerdale.

The actress previously told Metro that she was keen to take on new projects when we chatted to her about her exit.

‘I’ve always wanted to do something more urbany, like your Shameless or This Is England, something like that.

‘But then there’s also the side of me that wants to do something more period – something different to what I’ve done here.

Daisy has played Amelia in the Yorkshire-based soap since 2011 and has been involved in some major storylines, including a teenage pregnancy which resulted in her giving birth during the show’s 50th anniversary in 2022.

She left the show just before Christmas to live with biological dad Daz Spencer (Mark Jordon) after Tom King’s (James Chase) sentencing.

‘It was lovely to see him again, so that was really emotional,’ Daisy said of Mark’s return to the show.

‘It’s a nice ending. It is really lovely. I feel like my character’s never done anything for herself, it’s always for other people. So, I think this is the one thing that she thinks, “You know what? I need this.”’
