The drama kicks off as Rose wrestles with her future in Summer Bay following her brother Xander’s sudden decision not to return. Xander, who had gone to Melbourne for a six-week business placement, has now decided to stay permanently after landing his dream job managing events for a large hospitality company. Dana, Xander’s girlfriend, isn’t thrilled. Her life is rooted in Summer Bay — with her pregnant sister Harper, her nursing job, and commitments at the surf club. Despite her hopes, a trip to Melbourne to change Xander’s mind ends in disappointment. Upon her return, she confirms to Harper that her relationship with Xander is over.
Heartbroken and emotionally drained, Dana finds herself at Salt, trying to drown her sorrows when a newcomer, Sunny, starts showing interest. But friends Remy and Kirby step in, warning Dana that a rebound fling isn’t the answer. Dana ends up at Rose’s place instead, sharing drinks and frustrations. The next morning, things take an awkward turn when Rose returns to find Dana packing up Xander’s belongings — a task he had entrusted to his sister. Dana’s sharp comments about tossing his stuff to charity finally push Rose over the edge, leading to a heated exchange between the two women. After some reflection, Dana apologizes, and Rose opens up about her growing uncertainty about staying in Summer Bay now that her brother is gone.
Rose reveals that she originally moved to the Bay with Xander to connect with their newly discovered half-sister Jasmine. But after Jasmine left abruptly, cutting off ties, Rose has struggled to find her place. As she, Dana, and Bri help sort Xander’s things, Rose pretends to be okay — but it’s clear she’s hurting.
Enter Mali, who, upon hearing that Xander won’t return, checks in on Rose. Though she insists she’s fine, she eventually vents her frustration over being abandoned. Mali, always the supportive friend, encourages her to focus on herself and her future. They share dinner together at Salt, and as they part ways, Rose hugs him in appreciation. Unbeknownst to them, Abby walks around the corner — just in time to witness the heartfelt moment. The very same night Mali had canceled their dinner plans, Abby sees him wrapped in an emotional embrace with his ex. She slips away quietly, hurt and suspicious, and later tells her brother Levi what she saw.
Rose, now feeling empowered after her talk with Mali, reveals her decision to apply to become a police detective — a childhood dream she’s finally ready to pursue. Mali supports her wholeheartedly, proud to have helped her take that step. But the celebration is short-lived.
The next day, Levi confronts Mali at his caravan, demanding answers. Abby now believes Mali is cheating. Though Mali tries to brush it off, Levi doesn’t hold back — Abby saw the hug, and she’s convinced there’s something more going on. Will Mali be able to explain the situation and win back Abby’s trust? Or has his closeness with Rose already done too much damage?
