The Good Doctor Danny Actor Leaving After Season 6 For Law & Order Creator’s New Show

Actor Brandon Larracuente is leaving The Good Doctor after season 6 and joining a new show from Law & Order’s Dick Wolf. The drama series, following Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) and other medical staff at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital, premiered on ABC in 2017. Larracuente’s Danny Perez debuted in season 6 as a first-year resident, and through several episodes, his relationship with Jordan Allen (Bria Samoné Henderson) and past struggles with addiction have become important to his arc.

According to Deadline, Larracuente will exit The Good Doctor, despite his recent introduction as a main character. Danny’s story has reportedly reached an ending point, and the season 6 finale will serve as his last appearance in a regular capacity. Larracuente is set to star opposite Troian Bellisario in Wolf’s upcoming series On Call.

What Danny’s Absence Could Mean For The Good Doctor

Though Danny and Jordan develop feelings for each other and eventually kiss, their relationship has been affected by his addiction. Larracuente’s character revealed early on how important his sobriety and becoming a surgeon were to him and why a potential romance would be difficult. After his overdose, things became more complicated, with Danny deciding to remain single for a year. However, in recent episodes, the pair agreed to explore their friendship, which raises questions about what kind of impact Danny’s absence will have on Jordan in The Good Doctor season 7.

Not only has Danny strengthened his relationship with Jordan and others, but after completing rehab and returning to the hospital, he seems to be in a better place. The Good Doctor’s season 6 finale preview teased an accident involving Danny, who is shown on top of a vehicle during an impending crash. It is unclear how the series will conclude his arc, but assuming he is not killed off, it may be possible for Larracuente to guest star in the future.

It will be interesting to see what events surround Larracuente’s departure, but The Good Doctor features multiple characters and storylines that will keep the series going. Danny’s exit is not the show’s first either, with Claire Browne (Antonia Thomas) deciding to leave and Neil Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez) having died in season 3. Eventually, The Good Doctor season 6 will determine how Danny’s arc ends, but it allows Larracuente to focus on his next venture with On Call.
