The story of Virgin River is far from over—and it’s already made streaming history.

Netflix has officially renewed the fan-favorite romantic drama for an eighth season, locking in 10 more episodes and cementing its place as the longest-running live-action scripted series on the platform. With a projected 84 episodes across its run, Virgin River has also become Netflix’s longest-running English-language drama to date.

The announcement arrives just after Season 7 wrapped production, with filming taking place across Vancouver and a brief location shoot in Mexico. While the premiere date for Season 7 is still under wraps, it’s expected to land in late 2025 or early 2026—and thanks to this early green light, fans can look forward to Season 8 arriving sooner than expected.

 “A Journey With Beloved Characters”

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith expressed his appreciation for the show’s longevity and devoted fanbase.

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” Smith shared with Tudum.

And what a journey it’s been.

Based on Robyn Carr’s best-selling novels, Virgin River follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who escapes her past by relocating to a quiet Northern California town. There, she finds unexpected healing—and romance—with rugged local bar owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

 What’s Ahead in Season 7

Season 6 ended on a hopeful note, with Mel and Jack finally tying the knot after years of heartbreak and healing. Season 7 promises to dive deeper into their life as newlyweds.

“Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together,” Smith revealed.
“Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders.”

It’s a classic Virgin River setup—balancing personal milestones with small-town stakes, all wrapped in emotional warmth and quiet resilience.

 A Consistent Hit

While other shows have come and gone, Virgin River has been a quiet powerhouse for Netflix since its 2019 debut. The show has remained a Top 10 fixture, with 38 weeks on Nielsen’s streaming charts, according to Deadline. It has also dominated Netflix’s global Top 10 across multiple seasons, proving its staying power in a competitive streaming landscape.

Its blend of heartfelt romance, ensemble storytelling, and tranquil scenery has earned it a reputation as a go-to comfort binge, beloved by viewers of all ages.

 Season 8 on the Horizon

Thanks to this early renewal, Season 8’s production is likely to begin sooner than initially expected, which could narrow the release gap between seasons. With at least 20 new episodes already confirmed across Seasons 7 and 8, fans can rest easy knowing that plenty more Virgin River stories are on the way.

Until then, all six current seasons of Virgin River are streaming now on Netflix, just waiting for another trip back to town.
