Pack your bags—Virgin River is officially welcoming fans back for another season. Netflix has announced that the hit romantic drama has been renewed for Season 8, solidifying its place as the longest-running live-action scripted series in the streamer’s history.

The news comes just days after production wrapped on Season 7, which is currently slated for release in late 2025 or early 2026. With this renewal, Virgin River officially surpasses fan-favorite Netflix veterans Grace and Frankie and Orange Is the New Black, marking a milestone moment for the comfort-viewing drama.

 A Quiet Powerhouse

While some series burn bright and fade fast, Virgin River continues to defy expectations. Since its 2019 debut, the series has remained a steady performer for Netflix, thanks to its emotional storytelling, scenic small-town setting, and devoted fanbase. At the heart of the series is Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), a nurse practitioner seeking peace in the sleepy town of Virgin River, and her partner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a former Marine turned bar owner.

Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith expressed gratitude for the show’s ongoing success.

Fresh off a cliffhanger involving Charmaine and her long-mysterious twins, Season 7 picks up with Mel and Jack as they settle into newlywed life and begin building their future together—quite literally, on the farm. But don’t expect smooth sailing. According to Smith, “Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together.”

Meanwhile, Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O’Toole) will be battling to preserve the town’s beloved clinic from external threats, a plotline that echoes Virgin River’s long-standing theme of community resilience.

 New Faces, New Drama

Season 7 will also welcome two new characters who are sure to stir things up in town:

• Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) joins as Victoria, a former police officer who now works for the state medical board. Hired to investigate Doc’s practice, Victoria brings both compassion and scrutiny as she evaluates the town’s healthcare operations.

• Cody Kearsley (Riverdale) plays Clay, a man on a personal mission to find his long-lost sister after being separated during childhood foster care. His story introduces a new emotional layer to Virgin River’s ensemble.
